Background: As awareness continues to grow around the negative health effects from exposure to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), researchers are working to advance understanding of which communities are most at risk. People may be exposed to different types of PFAS through different routes of exposure including PFAS contaminated drinking water, workplaces, and even diet. In some cases, these exposures may originate from contamination at airports, military sites, industrial facilities, landfills, or wastewater treatment plants. Recent studies have shown that exposure to PFAS can vary with sociodemographic factors, and understanding these factors can help in assessing risk and better addressing community needs.
