back to Events Archive

Nearly 300 guests attended this year's fundraiser for the Susan S. Bailis Breast Cancer Research Fund. The "Evening of Celebration in Dance" on April 14 at the Wang Center included a spectacular performance by the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and a pre-show reception.

THE SUSAN S. BAILIS BREAST CANCER RESEARCH FUND
Susan Bailis was an eloquent champion of the need for innovative research on breast
cancer with the goal of identifying possible environmental factors of this disease. When she
succumbed to breast cancer in 2000, Susan left a legacy of hope for women and families
in the fund that bears her name. The Susan S. Bailis Breast Cancer Research Fund supports
Silent Spring Institute’s pioneering research, including studies of pollutants from common
products like pesticides, detergents, and plastics containing chemicals that mimic estrogen
or affect other hormones. The Fund provides critically important resources that enable the
Institute to continue its work.

ALVIN AILEY AMERICAN DANCE THEATER
The acclaimed Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater spreads its energy, enthusiasm and unique style across America. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Judith Jamison, the company continues Alvin Ailey’s legacy of inspiration and his commitment to bringing the joy of dance into the lives of people.
