A method used to detect breast tumors and to help differentiate between cancerous and noncancerous tumors. Mammograms can detect tumors before they can be felt by hand. Mammograms work by compressing the breast between two plates and x-raying the breast tissue. A radiologist examines the resulting x-ray.
